Poseidon is known as the god of the sea, earthquakes and horses. He eventually stood up against the Titans,including his father, in The Titan War, defeated and imprisoned them in Tartarus. Zeus grew up, in secret, on the island of Crete, preparing to confront his father. To ensure his safety, he ate each of his children as they were born, until Rhea, unhappy with the loss of her children, tricked Cronus into eating a rock instead of Zeus. Before Zeus was born Cronus was given a prophecy that one of his own children would become more powerful than him and eventually overthrow him as ruler of the universe. He is the explanation of thunder and lighting and major storms. His main weapon is a thunderbolt, that he uses to punish those that break the laws and those who oppose him. Zeus's symbol is an eagle, a bull, and an oak tree, standing for his wisdom, strength and power. In mythology, it is said that Zeus overthrew his father, Cronus, and won in a draw against his brothers, Poseidon and Hades, to become supreme ruler. Zeus is known as the sky god and the ruler of all gods and also known for his many affairs with both immortal and mortal women. These gods are usually referred to as the Big Three. The most known of the six were Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades. Cronus and Rhea were Titan siblings, they became husband and wife and had 6 children, the first of the Olympians.
